"Petra to lost patience with the Barty slice"
Ashleigh Barty is from Australia, aged 22 and at her highest rank of 15th in the world. She enjoys strong home support, being Australian and also her father is a native Australian. She won two tournaments last year (Nottingham in June on grass and the Elite Trophy in November on hard courts). She also appeared in the final of Sydney in January. This year she is 10 and 2 , having won 2 matches in the Hopman Cup and reached the final in Sydney. She has a remarkably good serve for her height and the precision of her backhand slice frustrates many a good opponent.
Petra Kvitova is a Czech player, aged 28 and ranked 6th in the world. Her best surface is grass and surprisingly plays better on clay than hard courts. She had an excellent 2018, winning 5 tournaments, all in the first 6 months. The second half of the year was a bit disappointing and she lost all 3 of her group matches in the Masters Cup in October. She has only managed 1 semi-final (2012) place in the Australian Open in ten attempts and has not been beyond the 3rd round in the last 5 years.
Info: Melbourne - hard courts.
Head to Head: Kvitova leads 3-0, winning their last match this year in Sydney. However the deciding set went to a tie-break and the previous meeting also went to 3 sets.
Summary: Value for Barty at 2.50.
