Osaka, Naomi v Kvitova, Petra 26/01 01:00
TENNIS Australian Open Women FinalKick Off: 26/01/2019 01:00
"Too close to call"
Naomi Osaka is a Japanese player, aged 21 and at her highest rank of 4th in the world. She has lived in the States since the age of 3 and was originally coached by her father Leonard Francois who is from Haiti. Naomi has an older sister Mari who is also a professional tennis player and both were coached by their father, much like Richard Williams coached his daughters the Williams sisters. Osaka is the reigning US Open Champion and had previously won her first tournament in Indian Wells earlier last year. She is a very stylish player and hits the ball very hard, some times serving at 125 mph. Her recent success is partly down to her coach Sascha Bajin who was formerly Serenas hitting partner.
Petra Kvitova is a Czech player, aged 28 and ranked 6th in the world. It will be a remarkable achievement who ever wins the final, but perhaps more so for Kvitova after coming back from a horrific knife attack which nearly ended her career when her left hand was badly damaged. She won 5 tournaments in the first 6 months of last year and so far, this year, has only lost 1 match. winning 12 including the tournament in Sydney. She also has not dropped a set on the way to the Australian Open final.
Info: Melbourne, hard court.
Head to Head: The players have not played each other before.
Summary: You can argue a case for either player, Kvitova as she has slimmed down but keeps the power and can probably move quicker or for Osaka who is an improving filly being only 21. But slight value for Osaka at 2.20, with nothing to choose between the two.
